The Republican ticket of the incumbent president of the United States Dwight D. Eisenhower and the vice president of the United States Richard Nixon defeated the Democratic ticket of the former governor of Illinois Adlai Stevenson II and the senior U.S. senator from Tennessee Estes Kefauver. Eisenhower defeated Stevenson in the national election with 457 electoral votes.
