The Republican ticket of the incumbent president William McKinley and the governor of New York Theodore Roosevelt defeated the Democratic ticket of the former U.S. representative from Nebraska's 1st congressional district William Jennings Bryan and the former vice president Adlai Stevenson I. McKinley defeated Bryan in the national election with 292 electoral votes.
