The Seventh Orissa Legislative Assembly was convened after 1977 Orissa Legislative Assembly election. After lifting of nationwide Emergency & Janata Party's win in 1977 election, Prime Minister Morarji Desai dismissed 9 Congress led state govt including Odisha by imposing President's rule under Article 356 and called snap election of these state's assemblies. Janata Party came to power after winning in landslide of 110 seats.
