The Great Root Bear, known since at least early 2012 as Rooty and in Quebec as Grand Ours A&W, is an anthropomorphic brown bear used as the mascot (or "spokesbear") of A&W Restaurants in the United States, Canada, and in parts of Asia. Canadian operations use a region-specific version of the character. The mascot was introduced in 1973. In the United States, the mascot went out of use in the 2000s, but saw a resurgence after 2011.
