Dongfeng (missile)
The Dongfeng (Chinese: 东风; lit. 'East Wind') series, typically abbreviated as "DF missiles", are a family of short, medium, intermediate-range and intercontinental ballistic missiles operated by the Chinese People's Liberation Army Rocket Force (formerly the Second Artillery Corps). Missiles of this series have consistently been the primary delivery method of China's nuclear weapons. The Long March family of space launch vehicles is also rooted in early Dongfeng development.
The DF-61 and DF-41 are examples of modern solid-fuel nuclear-armed ICBMs deployed by China. Conventional warheads are also used, including the DF-ZF hypersonic glide vehicle deployed on the DF-17, the dual-capable DF-26, and the DF-21, hailed as the world's first anti-ship ballistic missile.
