British rule in Assam

British rule in Assam started after the Treaty of Yandabo, in which Burma relinquished control over the Ahom kingdom, and the British took it under their protectorate. The kingdom ended in 1833 with British annexation. Other annexed areas in the region were integrated into an Assam province and governed by a British governor, until the Independence of India in 1947.
