Women writers in Chinese literature

Although pre-modern China long held that women lacked literary ability, women’s writing—especially poetry—gained some recognition during the imperial period. In the early twentieth century, women writers increasingly engaged with feminist ideas and contemporary political change, expressing perspectives shaped by women’s experiences rather than those of male authors.
