Vampire Hunter D: Bloodlust (吸血鬼ハンターD ブラッドラスト, Banpaia Hantā Dī Buraddorasuto), simply known in Japan as Vampire Hunter D, is a 2001 dark fantasy vampire adventure anime film written for the screen and directed by Yoshiaki Kawajiri. It is based on the 1985 novel Vampire Hunter D: Demon Deathchase by Hideyuki Kikuchi.
The film began production in 1997 and was completed with the intention of being shown in American theaters. It was shown in twelve theaters across the United States and received generally positive reception from American critics.
