USS Greenling (SS-213), a Gato-class submarine, was the first ship of the United States Navy to be named for the greenling.
Commissioned in 1942, Greenling went on a total of twelve war patrols before Japan surrendered in August 1945, and was decommissioned in 1946. Greenling was struck from the naval register in March 1960, and sold for scrap later that year.
