Trigeminocardiac reflex
The Trigemino-Cardiac Reflex (TCR) consists of a reduction in heart rate associated with a marked decrease in mean arterial pressure following stimulation of the trigeminal nerve.
In recent years, the TCR has emerged as the prototype for a family of physiological reflex reactions—not necessarily pathological—which includes the oculocardiac reflex and the diving reflex. The renewed interest in the TCR and related reflexes is largely due to the research of the Swiss physician Bernard Schaller.
