Thoracocharax is a genus of freshwater ray-finned fishes belonging to the family Gasteropelecidae, the freshwater hatchetfishes. These fishes are found in the Amazon, Orinoco and ParanĂ¡ basins in South America. These fish live just under the surface of the water.
