The Sudans
The Sudans (also known as Sudan) is a region in Northeast Africa comprising the sovereign countries of Sudan and South Sudan. Until 2011, the region was united under the control of the city of Khartoum in the north under a state known as the Republic of the Sudan. This region is one of the most geopolitically and geographically unstable on Earth. The region in its modern geopolitical definition does not include former French Sudan, only the Nile region designated as Sudan by Turkish, Egyptian and British colonists.
