The People's Daily (Chinese: 人民日报; pinyin: Rénmín Rìbào) is the official newspaper of the Central Committee of the Chinese Communist Party (CCP). Published by the People's Daily Press, it provides direct information on the policies and viewpoints of the CCP in multiple languages. It is the largest newspaper in the People's Republic of China (PRC).
The paper was established in 1948 by the North China Bureau of the CCP, and was first published in Pingshan County, Hebei. Its office was moved to Beijing in 1949 and became the official newspaper of the CCP Central Committee. During the Cultural Revolution, it came under the control of the Gang of Four and became what was known as the Two Newspapers and One Journal.
The People's Daily is often viewed as most representative of the mainstream perspective of China's government and the CCP leadership's priorities. In addition to news, the paper also publishes editorials, commentaries, and opinions, with varying degrees of official authoritativeness. The paper has mainland China, Hong Kong, overseas and Tibetan versions. It additionally maintains an online presences through the People's Daily Online.
