In July 2025, Pinnacle Financial Partners announced its intent to purchase Synovus in an $8.6 billion all-stock deal, thus creating the 28th largest lender in the US, with $116 billion in assets. In January 2026, it was announced that the two institutions had completed the merger of their operations.
