Sumi Somaskanda

Sumi Somaskanda is an American journalist. She joined the BBC as chief presenter on the BBC's television news channel, BBC News, in March 2023, enabling increased coverage of US affairs including elections. Somaskanda was previously a senior presenter and correspondent for DW News and has written for The New Statesman, Foreign Policy and Al Jazeera.

Somaskanda came to additional prominence leading BBC News coverage of the 2026 Israeli–United States strikes on Iran.
