The company was founded by Gary Barber and Roger Birnbaum on August 21, 1998, as Spyglass Entertainment and became dormant on February 10, 2012. In the wake of the sexual abuse allegations that involved former TWC chairman Harvey Weinstein, Spyglass was relaunched on March 13, 2019 in conjunction with Lantern Entertainment.
