SoFi Technologies, Inc. (abbreviated as SoFi) is an American financial technology company. Founded in 2011 by Stanford University students, it operates as a nationally chartered online bank and is a technology provider to other financial institutions. SoFi is the largest U.S. based online lender, and has 13.7 million customers as of 2025.

In its initial years, SoFi focused on providing student loans, using data science to assess risk and offer borrowers lower interest rates. Over time, it expanded its offerings to include personal loans, mortgages, auto loans, credit cards, stock investing, insurance, estate planning and bank accounts. SoFi became the first full-service financial technology startup to receive a formal U.S. banking license as well as the first nationally chartered consumer bank in the U.S. to offer cryptocurrency trading.
