Sigma Canis Majoris is a variable star in the southern constellation of Canis Major. It has the proper name Nganurganity [ˈŋanuɾˌɡ̊aniɟ̊] (historically written Unurgunite /ˌʌnərˈɡʌnaɪt/); Sigma Canis Majoris is its Bayer designation. This star is located at a distance of approximately 1,290 light-years (400 parsecs) from the Sun. It has an apparent visual magnitude varying between 3.43 and 3.51, which is bright enough to be seen with the naked eye. The star is drifting further away with a line of sight velocity of +22 km/s.
