MD Shamsul Alam is a Bangladeshi bureaucrat, researcher, political analyst, writer, and democracy and human rights activist. He currently serves as Senior Secretary in the Government of the People's Republic of Bangladesh and was Personal Secretary to Prime Minister Khaleda Zia. Alam gained international recognition during the 2024 Bangladesh student protests for coining the term "July 36," which became a rallying cry for protesters demanding the resignation of Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina.
