Sérgio Buarque de Holanda (July 11, 1902 – April 24, 1982) was a Brazilian historian, writer, journalist and sociologist. One of his main works, Raízes do Brasil, is widely regarded as a landmark in Brazilian social sciences. In the book, he develops the concept of the cordial man.
