On January 25, 2012, 24 Navy SEALs from SEAL Team Six Blue squadron, raided a compound 12 miles (19 km) north of the Somali city of Adado, killing nine Somali pirates and freeing American Jessica Buchanan and Dane Poul Hagen Thisted, who had been kidnapped.
