Michael Asher (explorer)

Michael Asher FRSL (born 1953) is an English desert explorer, writer, historian, deep ecologist, and educator. He lived for some years with nomads in the Sudan whose lives were unchanged by modernity. He has lived and travelled in the Sahara and the Arabian Desert, published both non-fiction and fiction works based on his explorations and encounters, and presented several documentaries based on his published works. Asher was the final recipient of the Lawrence Memorial Medal of the Royal Society for Asian Affairs.
