Max Frankel (April 3, 1930 – March 23, 2025) was an American journalist who was executive editor of The New York Times from 1986 to 1994. He won a Pulitzer Prize in 1973 for his coverage of Richard Nixon's visit to China. He also brought attention to the fact that the The New York Times had under-reported, or not adequately covered the Holocaust. He is the father of film director David Frankel.
