In 1845, James Brooke, with the naval support of Sir Thomas Cochrane, sent an expedition against the Kingdom of Marudu in modern Eastern Sabah. The Marudu expedition also commonly known in the Malay world as the Langkon War, took place during the Anglo-Bruneian War.
