Mangani Festival

The Mangani or Mangani festival (மாங்கனி திருவிழா (māṅgani tiruviḻā) in Tamil, Fête des mangues (transl. Mangoes feast) in French) is an annual Hindu festival celebrated in the Indian city of Karaikal, during the Tamil month of Aani. It is celebrated in memory of the visit of Shiva in his Bikshantar (Bikshatana) form at Karaikal, who, begging through the city, will be provided food by Karaikal Ammaiyar. A deed and currently a festive ritual known as amudu paḍaiyal (அமுது படையல் (transl. Food offering)) in Tamil.
