Maidcore (Russian: Мейдкор, Japanese: メイドコア), also known as maid rock, is an underground rock music microgenre and online music community aesthetically defined by the prevalence of anime girl French maid personas. Popularized on the Russian website VK.com, the genre and subculture are influenced by the otaku subculture, anime and manga fandom and internet culture. Maidcore variously blends post-rock, shoegaze and breakcore.
