Due to its pronunciation being identical to that of a profane Greek slang word, UKMET requested the name Malakas to be retired. It was replaced with Amuyao (Tagalog: Amuyao, [amujao]), which refers to Mount Amuyao on Luzon. The name will also officially be used in the Philippine local naming system in 2028 after replacing Aghon of the 2024 Pacific typhoon season.
