Laterality

The term laterality refers to the preference an organism shows for one side of its body over the other, such as left/right handedness and left/right-footedness. It may also refer to the primary use of the left or right hemisphere in the brain. It has been primarily studied in humans, specifically to determine the effects on language, but the term also applies to animals and plants.
