The local economy is driven by a wide range of activities, including agriculture, carpentry, jewelry making, sculpture, textile work, shoemaking, painting, hairdressing, mechanical and electrical repair, small-scale catering, transportation, and trade. Alongside these sectors, Kalundu is developing a burgeoning financial sector with microfinance providers and banking institutions, in addition to being the site of the Port of Kalundu.
