John Dear

John Dear (born August 13, 1959) is an American peace activist, lecturer, author and a former Jesuit, who is currently a Catholic priest in residence in the diocese of Monterey, California. [see: www.johndear.org and www.beatitudescenter.org.] He has written 40 books on Jesus, peace and nonviolence; been arrested 85 times in acts of nonviolent civil disobedience against war, injustice, poverty, racism, executions, nuclear weapons, and environmental destruction, and is currently the founder and director of www.beatitudescenter.org where he offers a weekly global podcast, "The Nonviolent Jesus Podcast." His most recent book is "Universal Love." He is a leading advocate of nonviolence in the tradition of Gandhi and King.
