John Lester Hubbard Chafee (/ˈtʃeɪfiː/ CHAY-fee; October 22, 1922 – October 24, 1999) was an American politician and officer in the United States Marine Corps. A member of the Republican Party, he served as the 66th governor of Rhode Island, as the secretary of the Navy, and as a United States senator.
