It is based on the Australian series True Story with Hamish & Andy, created by Tim Bartley, Hamish Blake, Andy Lee, and Ryan Shelton, which released on the Nine Network. The series premiered on HBO on October 18, 2024.

In November 2024, the series was renewed for a second season, which premiered on November 28, 2025. In January 2026, the series was renewed for a third season.
