Hot flash, also known as hot flush is a vasomotor symptom, often caused by the changing hormone levels that are characteristic of menopause. It is typically experienced as a feeling of intense heat with sweating and rapid heartbeat, and may typically last from two to 30 minutes for each occurrence. Hot flashes are the most commonly recognized menopausal symptom. Longer duration vasomotor symptoms are more often called hot flushes.
