Hormozd (Sassanian general)

Hormozd (Middle Persian: Hormāzd; Arabic: هرمز; died 633 CE) was a Sasanian military commander and provincial governor who led Persian forces against the early armies of the Rashidun Caliphate during the initial phase of the Muslim conquest of Persia. He is primarily known from early Islamic historical chronicles as the Sasanian commander defeated and killed at the Battle of Chains in 633 CE by the Muslim general Khalid ibn al-Walid.
