Helena Nancy Moreno (born September 30, 1977) is a Mexican-born American politician and former journalist and realtor who is the mayor of New Orleans. She previously served as an at-large member of the New Orleans City Council since 2017 until her inauguration as mayor. Moreno was a Democratic former member of the Louisiana House of Representatives, where she served District 93 from 2010 to 2018. She then served as New Orleans City Council president from 2019 to 2023.
On October 8, 2024, Moreno filed paperwork to run for mayor of New Orleans in the 2025 election. Moreno avoided a runoff and was elected mayor of New Orleans in October 2025 with 55% of the vote. Moreno is the city's first Hispanic mayor and second female mayor.
