Heart of Stone (German: Das kalte Herz) is an East German fantasy film directed by Paul Verhoeven. The first East German film made in Agfacolor, it was released in 1950. The film is based on the fairy tale of the same name originally published as a story-within-the-story of Das Wirtshaus im Spessart by Wilhelm Hauff in 1827. Das kalte Herz is the most well-known contribution of Hauff's Märchenalmanach auf das Jahr 1828 ("Fairy Tale Almanac for the Year 1828").
