Hawkeye (Clinton Francis "Clint" Barton) is a character appearing in American comic books published by Marvel Comics. Created by writer Stan Lee and artist Don Heck, the character debuted as a supervillain in Tales of Suspense #57 (September 1964) before joining the Avengers as a superhero in The Avengers #16 (May 1965). A skilled marksman and acrobat without superhuman powers, he is typically portrayed as an expert archer whose tactical skill and abrasive personality have made him a long-standing member of multiple Avengers lineups.

Over his publication history he co-founded the West Coast Avengers, was married to Bobbi Morse / Mockingbird, adopted the Ronin identity during a darker mid-2000s period, and later served as a mentor to successor archer Kate Bishop. A major modern reappraisal of the character came in the fourth volume of Hawkeye by Matt Fraction and David Aja, which emphasized urban, everyman storytelling and explored Clint’s vulnerability (including partial hearing loss) and ethics of everyday heroism.

Jeremy Renner plays the character in the Marvel Cinematic Universe films Thor (2011), The Avengers (2012), Avengers: Age of Ultron (2015), Captain America: Civil War (2016), and Avengers: Endgame (2019), the animated series What If...? (2021), and the television miniseries Hawkeye (2021).
