Fifth Business is a novel by the Canadian writer Robertson Davies. Published by Macmillan of Canada in 1970, it is the first instalment of Davies' best-known work, the Deptford Trilogy, and explores the life of the narrator, Dunstan Ramsay. It was the novel that brought Davies to international attention.
Many literary theorists have found examples of archetypes based on the work of Swiss psychologist Carl Gustav Jung throughout Fifth Business.
