It samples the traditional hymn "It Is Well with My Soul". The song was written by Bart Millard, Ben Glover, Crystal Lewis, David Garcia, and Tim Timmons, while production was handled by Glover and Garcia.

"Even If" was a commercial success upon release. The song experienced massive airplay in the United States, leading it to the top position of the Billboard and Mediabase Christian Airplay charts for nineteen consecutive weeks.
