Emergency medical services in Australia

Pre-hospital emergency services in Australia are provided by government ambulance services or contracted by government health departments. With the exception of Western Australia and the Northern Territory, ambulance services are provided by a state or territory government agency. In Western Australia and the Northern Territory, health and well-being charity St John Ambulance is contracted by government to provide ambulance services.
