Elliott J. Schuchardt
Elliott J. Schuchardt (born September 26, 1966) is an American politician, writer and civil liberties activist.
Schuchardt is the author of America's Achilles Heel: How to Protect Your Family When America Loses the Reserve Currency. The book argues that the U.S. dollar is artificially overvalued, due to the dollar's use as the world's reserve currency. Schuchardt argues that the dollar could suffer a material decline in value, if the commodities markets use a different reserve currency in the future.
Schuchardt is a candidate for the Tennessee General Assembly in the August 2026 election.
Schuchardt is known for filing a lawsuit against the federal government, which contended that the United States was unlawfully collecting and searching the national e-mail database. The lawsuit was dismissed in 2020 by the U.S. Court of Appeals for the 3rd Circuit for failure to "rebut the government’s evidence that his claims were untrue".
In 2015, Schuchardt filed and argued the case that obtained the injunction that prevented Sweet Briar College, located in Amherst, Virginia, from closing its doors after more than a century.
