Custom firmware
Custom firmware, often referred to as aftermarket firmware, constitutes unofficial, third-party modifications to the original firmware embedded in devices like video game consoles, smartphones, and various other embedded systems. These alterations may be designed to introduce new features, unlock hidden capabilities, or extend the functional lifespan of the hardware. Within the video game community, the term "custom firmware" is commonly shortened to CFW. It refers specifically to modified versions of a console's official system software (OFW or official firmware), enabling functionalities not sanctioned by the manufacturer.
