Castrop-Rauxel (German pronunciation: [ˌkastʁɔpˈʁaʊksl̩] ⓘ), often simply referred to as Castrop by locals, is a former coal mining city in the eastern part of the Ruhr Area within the state of North Rhine-Westphalia in Germany.
