Post-season history

The Buccaneers–Saints rivalry is a National Football League (NFL) rivalry between the Tampa Bay Buccaneers and New Orleans Saints.

The two teams first met in the 1977 season, marking a significant moment for the Buccaneers as they achieved their first victory in franchise history after enduring a streak of 26 consecutive losses dating back to the previous season. Over the years, despite the Saints' inconsistent performance, they managed to gain an advantage in the overall series. The rivalry intensified when both teams were assigned to the newly established NFC South division in the 2002 season, resulting in two annual meetings. While the Buccaneers began to assert themselves with a strong defensive play, the Saints ultimately dominated the rivalry throughout the era of Sean Payton and Drew Brees, although the Buccaneers won the team’s lone playoff meeting at the end of this period.

The Saints lead the overall series, 41–28. The two teams have met once in the playoffs, with the Buccaneers winning.
