On 13 April 2024, a mass stabbing took place at the Westfield Bondi Junction shopping centre in the eastern suburbs of Sydney, New South Wales, Australia. Forty-year-old Joel Cauchi killed six people and injured twelve, including a nine-month-old infant. Cauchi was later fatally shot by a NSW Police Inspector after he ran at her with a knife in hand.
Although media noted that the majority of casualties were female, an inquest by the Coroner's Court of New South Wales denied a misogynistic motive and stated that the killings were committed without specific targets while Cauchi was in a state of psychosis.
