It is located in the San Joaquin Valley of California and is headquartered in Bakersfield, California in Kern County. The company operates facilities in Prosser, Washington. Private equity firm Madison Dearborn Partners owned Bolthouse from 2005 to 2012, when it was bought by the Campbell Soup Company for US$1.55 billion. The company changed hands once again in June 2019, when Campbell sold it to Butterfly Equity.
