Barney Circle is a historic district in the Hill East neighborhood of Southeast Washington, D.C. It is bounded by the Anacostia River to the south, Potomac Ave to the north, 17th Street to the east, and Kentucky Ave to the west. The district's name derives from the eponymous former traffic circle at Pennsylvania Avenue just before it crosses the John Philip Sousa Bridge over the Anacostia River. The traffic circle is named for Joshua Barney, Commander of the Chesapeake Bay Flotilla in the War of 1812.
