Aryal (also written as Arjel, Arjyal, and Ariyal) is a Nepalese surname. Aryal belongs to the Atreya gotra, and as such, they are believed to be the descendants of Sage Atreya. In Hinduism, Varaha (Nepali: वराह) is the deity of the Aryal clan. They were the Upadhyayas who worked as astrologers, also known as Jyotishis or Jaisis. The Aryal family is part of the Thar Ghar of the Gorkha Kingdom.
