Anthony Standen (spy)
Anthony or Antony Standen (b. c. 1548 – d. ?) was an English servant of Henry Stuart, Lord Darnley at the Scottish court. As an English Catholic exile he became a spy or intelligencer. Standen was recruited by Francis Walsingham and, using an alias Pompeo Pellegrini, provided critical information about preparations for the Spanish Armada. Imprisoned in the Tower of London in 1604, Standen wrote a short account of his adventures.
