Diplomatic relations between Afghanistan and Japan (Persian: روابط دیپلماتیک میان افغانستان و جاپان, Japanese: 日本とアフガニスタンの関係) were officially established in 1931, although early contacts date back to 1907 when the Afghan general Ayub Khan, who defeated the British in the 1880 Battle of Maiwand, visited Japan.

These two countries had embassies in both capitals, until the Embassy of Afghanistan, Tokyo closed in 2026, following consultation with the government of Japan. It was run by diplomats from the Islamic Republic of Afghanistan until its closure. Japan maintains its embassy in Kabul.
